What is laser hair removal ?

Laser hair removal is a high energy source which is transmitted through your skin and is absorbed by your hair follicle. Once it has been absorbed the high energy generates heat and destroys the hair follicle.

How long is a laser hair removal treatment.. ?

Treatments vary anything from 5 minutes to 1hour, depending on the area being treated.

Does Laser hair removal hurt ?

Most our clients say it is a little discomforting but better than waxing. The best we can describe the feeling is flicking of a rubber band.

How many hair removal treatments will I need ?

Generally speaking most treatments require 3 to 8 treatments. Although this can change depending on the area being treated. Other factors are hair density, skin tone and hormone related issues.

When will I come for my next visit ?

Treatment intervals can range from 4 to 6 or 8 week intervals depending on the area being treated. Legs can take up to 12 weeks this will be explained and discussed after your first treatment/ consultation.

Are there any Side Effects with laser hair removal treatments ?

After a treatment your skin can be a little red with a little welting. This can last from a few minutes to 1 hour. Serious complications are rare, but possible. These side effects could be blistering, sun burn effects, swelling and itching. Most of these symptoms are resolved in a couple of days.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Most of our clients undertake three to eight treatments to achieve optimal results (permanent hair reduction of 70% or greater). Other clients require more than eight treatments.

1. Permanent hair reduction may not be achieved by all clients. The vast majority of such clients being females with fine facial hair or members of both sexes experiencing varying levels of hormonal activity (e.g. puberty, pregnancy or menopause).

2. From our experience clients who start treatments under the age of 25 may need additional treatments, as their hair growth has not fully developed due to changing hormonal levels.

3. Females with hormonal imbalances or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome are recommended to consult an Endocrinologist for evaluation and possible medical treatment. Such clients tend to have excess hair growth secondary to their medical condition and may find that they require both medical treatment, as well as ongoing laser treatment, in order to achieve optimum results.

4. Best results are obtained on clients who have follow up treatment immediately after hair starts to grow. For areas above the neck, (excluding eyebrows, ears and nose) this normally occurs within 4 to 6 weeks of the laser treatment, whilst for all other areas this normally occurs within 6 to10 weeks of the last treatment. Clients who leave a long period of time between treatments will not achieve optimum results.

Post-Treatment Care for Laser Hair Removal.

1. Apply  Aloe vera gel to the treated area twice per day for three days.

2. Redness is common for a couple of hours to a couple of days after treatment. The redness is a natural response and usually disappears within a few hours. In some cases it can last longer, but unlikely to last more than two days.
3. Until redness has completely subsided, avoid performing activities that that cause excessive perspiration until the area has healed.

4. Avoid swimming pools and spas treated with chemicals or chlorine until the skin returns to its normal condition.

5. You may shower afterwards using luke warm water, but avoid hot showers until the skin returns to its normal skin condition. Wash the treated area gently with mild, unscented soap and pat dry (do not rub).

6. In the unusual case of crusting, swelling of the skin, apply Aloe vera gel. However, please advise us immediately. Do not pick at these areas, as this may result in infection.

7. In the rare case of an infection, a course of antibiotics is recommended. A prescription can be obtained from your local doctor.

8. Only use unscented creams or lotions whilst the area is sensitive.

9. For a period of up to four weeks after treatment, the hair in the treated area may have the appearance of stubble. This is not the new hair growth, but rather, the remnants of treated hair being expelled from the damage follicle. Allow this hair to fall away from the skin. .You may shave during this period. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding your laser treatments, please do not hesitate to contact your Marlene K.
